Over the weekend, and with our Christmas break coming to an end, I wanted to do something special with my family before we all headed back to work.

I found a great deal on lastminute.com.au for the 4 star boutique Hotel Grand Chancellor Melbourne. With it conveniently being located in the heart of the Central Business District of Melbourne, we couldn’t go wrong. Everything was just a step outside the hotel.

Our Premier King room was really spacious and was great for our daughter to run around and play in. The room contained a luxurious king size bed, 40” LCD TV, chaise lounge, executive work desk and a gorgeous rain shower in the bathroom. The Peter Morrissey amenities were a great touch too. I also liked that I could open the windows (we were on the 14th floor) and have some fresh air in our room, instead of the always contained heating and cooling which can leave you feeling dry and sometimes claustrophobic. (Well I do anyways).

The heated rooftop swimming pool, which is opened from 7.00am till 11.00pm is not to be missed. It’s not only great for a swim, but also spectacular at night time with the breath taking views of the Melbourne City Skyline. We enjoyed a swim during the afternoon, followed by an evening viewing of the city.

I must say that I found the fitness room (which I did NOT use, but always like to check out) a little less than ordinary. It contains 1 weight machine, 2 treadmills and 1 exercise bike. I just thought for a 4 star boutique hotel that it may have been a little better, but like I said, I didn’t use it so it didn’t bother me too much. Just on the lookout for my viewers who it may be a priority for.

We enjoyed a beautiful all you can eat buffet continental breakfast in the morning, that was not only delicious but left as feeling full and ready for the day ahead.

Hot Tips:

  • The Hotel Grand Chancellor offers complimentary free WIFI, but it’s only for 60 minutes, so only log on when you really need it.
  • There is no clothes line in the bathroom to hang out your clothes after swimming so be prepared to make your own makeshift one.
  • There is no exhaust fan in the bathroom, so leave the bathroom door and lounge windows open while taking a shower.
  • Take a walk up to the swimming pool on the top floor at night to enjoy a beautiful view of the Melbourne City Skyline. You can also bring up your own food and drinks.
  • Please check which package you have booked at check in because I found the front desk staff a little confused on what is included and what isn’t.
  • Hotel parking for only $22.00 per day which is located right next door.

I really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Melbourne and would definitely recommend it to families or couples. The location is fantastic, there’s parking at a reasonable rate right next door and the rooms are beautiful and have that luxurious feeling.
