The LEGOLAND Hotel in Malaysia is located 1 hour drive north of Singapore and is a great destination for your family holiday.  It’s located just outside Johor Bahru and is in the south of Malaysia.  The hotel is located roughly 5km from Puteri Harbour and about 20km from the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Bridge.

When you drive into The LEGOLAND Hotel you will be greeted by the spectacular dragon-guarded entrance and the lobby stands complete with LEGO pirate ship and LEGO castle.  Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see the dragon guarded-entrance in all it’s glory as it was under renovation with tarps over it.  The photos looked amazing though.

The LEGOLAND Hotel is full of children friendly features including a giant pirate ship and castle playground to quirky musical themed lifts, exploding toy boxes, and dragons.  There is a special wall with 12,528 LEGO mini figures, children’s play area with LEGO bricks and Xbox 360 Kinect, Interactive LEGO features and activities for children every day.  They also had meet and greet characters when we were there.

THE ROOM

We were lucky enough to stay in a Premium Kingdom Themed Room.  The room accommodates up to 5 people and is very spacious.

There is also a separate kid’s room which was pretty cool in my daughter’s words.  The bunk beds were Lego themed and there was also a separate kids television which my daughter was so impressed with.

The toiletries were also themed. And, kids-sized toothbrush, toothpaste, cups, etc,. We loved the thought and care that went into designing the room decor and amenities.  The only thing we didn’t like was the lego black spider above the toilet.  Maybe not a great idea for families with small kids.

Every room comes with a box of Duplo bricks, which comes in very handy because it keeps the kids happy and occupied in the room without having to resort to the TV.

Another fun bit for the kids – a treasure chest! It’s actually a big safe, and fairly unnoticeable in the corner of the kid’s room. You solve some easy puzzles (like counting number of dragons on the carpet, although it took us a few tries to get it as we are not very smart) and the safe pops open.  Inside are bits and pieces of LEGO merchandise and stickers. So, before you buy anything from the store in the hotel lobby, open the safe first to check what you’ve got.

Room Facilities:

  • King size bed
  • High-definition flat panel television
  • Kids’ own sleeping area with bunk bed, pull out trundle bed and entertainment unit (accommodates up to 3)
  • Treasure hunt
  • LEGO bricks to build with during your stay
  • Air conditioning
  • Mini-fridge
  • Coffee maker
  • Vanity/work station
  • Hairdryer
  • Complimentary toiletries

THE FACILITIES

There is a decent Swimming Pool in the hotel which has a kid’s wading pool and a deeper swimming pool for bigger kids and adults.  It also has two lifeguards on duty.

DINING

Bricks Family Restaurant

The buffet Breakfast is served here at Bricks and I’m going to be honest and let you know that we didn’t enjoy the breakfast as much as previous hotels.  The food was great, but it was like a giant food hall and you are eating with at least 200 other people.  There are kids running wild everywhere and the whole food hall just seems like absolute chaos.  It was the one downside to the whole experience.

We did enjoy our buffet diner here as it was much quieter and at a higher standard.  Open daily from 7:00am to 10:30am and 6:30pm to 10:00pm.

Di Mattoni

Italian cuisine at its family-finest makes this restaurant the perfect place to enjoy delicious pizzas and pastas, soups and desserts. After a long day at the theme parks, delight yourself with specially-created cocktails while the children have a blast with fruity beverages.

Open daily from 5:00pm to 10:30pm.

Kai’s Sushi Bar

Kai’s Sushi Bar is a brand-new Japanese restaurant at LEGOLAND®Hotel! It offers a delightful variety of authentic Japanese cuisine meticulously prepared by talented chefs! Also available are sake, sochu and Japanese beer while children can have their pick from a selection of cool Japanese mocktails. That’s not all, the hospitable Kai might turn up to wish you and family happy dining.

Open Daily from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.

OUR THOUGHTS

We had a great time at The LEGOLAND Malaysia Hotel and spent 6 nights here.  I would suggest 2 to 3 nights would be enough.  The area is just up and coming and there is not a lot to do here except for a small shopping area which hosts a couple of restaurants and shops.

In a year or so, this place will be fantastic as they are building a lot of new infrastructure.  Also, one downside, if you are here to watch TV in the night (like most of us are once the kids are asleep), there were only limited channels to watch (like 8) and two were in English, so make sure you bring your laptop and download some movies before arriving.

The hotel, theme park and waterpark were great.  We would highly recommend this hotel if you are planning a trip to the theme park.

We would like to thank The Legoland Hotel Malaysia for offering us a media rate and as always, we would never recommend a service or product that we didn’t honestly enjoy.
