The Penguin Parade is located in Phillip Island and is roughly a 90 minute drive from Melbourne City.

The Penguins arrive at sunset every day of the year so make sure you check out the Penguin Arrival Calendar on the website to ensure you don’t miss them.  Also, the Penguin Parade Phillip Island now has an app that provides detailed and interactive information which will enhance your visit to the world famous Penguin Parade. This rich, image-oriented app will take you behind the scenes of the penguin colony and help you learn everything you need to know about little penguins.

I have been to the Penguin Parade a number of times when I was smaller (#yearsandyearsago) and this time we were booked into the VIP Underground Viewing Experience.  The underground viewing platform (which has a limit of 70 visitors only) allows you to see the little penguins at eye level and is also fully enclosed which was fantastic because it was too cold outside.  This is a great way to see the penguins if you have children as it saves you waiting to mind your seat and from being in the cold or rain.

HOT TIPS

** Make sure you allow at least 10 minutes to walk from the boardwalk to the Penguin Parade.

** There is no photography allowed as it can frighten the penguins, so please don’t try and be sneaky with your phones, because it might deter the penguins from coming back.

** Book your tickets as early as possible as they book out very quickly.

** We visited in August and it was absolutely freezing, so make sure you pack some warm clothes, snacks and drinks.

** Dont forget to stop buy the merchandise shop and buy some cute little souvenirs.

OUR THOUGHTS

Overall we had a wonderful time at the Penguin Parade in Phillip Island.  It was a great experience not only for us but for my 3 year old daughter as well.  I definitely recommend booking the VIP Underground Viewing Platform if you have kids as it makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable.

I really enjoyed that inside the Underground Viewing we had our own Penguin Park Ranger giving us a run down on what was about to happen.  She also kept most of the kids occupied as we waited for the little penguins to arrive.  There was also a large television screen showing live footage of the penguins coming out from the beach, which was fantastic.  I still can’t believe how many people were taking photos when it clearly says everywhere not too, but there were plenty of park rangers keeping most of the visitors in check.

I would like to thank Penguin Parade in Phillip Island for hosting our visit and allowing me to share this wonderful experience with you all and as always, my opinion is definitely my own.
