Over the weekend I had the opportunity to take my daughter to The Big Freeze Festival located at Cranbourne Racecourse.  I wasn’t really sure what to expect and since my daughter has NEVER been to the snow before, I thought it was a great place to start.

The Big Freeze Festival is an event held over the July school holidays to provide snow experience for Melbourne families and to encourage kids to be creative and active during the cooler months.  The event is held undercover too, so don’t worry about the Melbourne weather, just put some woolies on and prepare to have fun.

Once we entered the big Shed we could clearly see what the event was all about.  There was a giant inflatable jumping castle (which my daughter spent most of her time on) some interesting little cubby houses (the little ones had a ball in playing in them), a giant snow dome (which I couldn’t convince my daughter to go in), food vans and the giant snow pit.

The snow pit is pre-booked with your ticket, so it doesn’t get overcrowded and you have a 1 hour time limit.  My daughter was in there for all of 5 minutes because it was too cold, too slippery and the fresh snow that is pumped in by the attendant was directed right at her face which of course as she is three, ended up in tears. So that was the end of the snow pit session for her (hence why I have no photos of the snow pit.)

Luckily enough though there is another section next door which was great for the arts and crafts.  There was mask making and rainbow decorating, and also a section called the YMCA’s Super Hero School.  It had a little course set up that the kids could act out some stunts to be super heroes with capes and all.  My daughter loved this section and completed the course a few times over.

We then ventured down to the stage where we met Elsa and Anna and had a sing along to some FROZEN tunes.  This just made my daughters day.

Overall, we had a fantastic afternoon and I really recommend this event as it’s a great way to keep the kids entertained for a few hours and its not too far away either.
