I came across World of Wanderlust while I was looking at some travel photos on Instagram. I became immediately obsessed and it has become a daily ritual for me to check out Brooke’s latest travel posts on her website every morning. YES, EVERY MORNING.

You are probably thinking, “What is World of Wanderlust”? Well for those of you who have been hiding under a shell and have not heard about it or even seen photos posted all over social media, this Interview is definitely something to be inspired by.

Brooke Saward is from Tasmania, Australia.  She is in her early 20’s and is currently traveling the world, documenting her whole trip as she lives it day by day. Her amazing photos, intriguing videos, fantastic travel advice and wonderful blog postings keep you coming back to find out what’s next on Brooke’s list.

Brooke has now turned her blog into a professional business working with brands including Creative Holidays, GoPro and Contiki and Tourism Boards such as Visit Amsterdam, South African Tourism, and Visit Berlin to advertise their products and destinations to her thousands of viewers from around the world.

Brooke’s book “The World of Wanderlust Story” is an inspiring read. It discusses Brooke’s first International holiday and advises you on how and where she is today. Her book is now available for $17.99.

Brooke has visited over 39 countries so far and I’m sure there’s many more to be added to that list.

I was lucky enough to have Brooke set aside some spare time out of her very busy schedule for me to answer a couple of questions that I’m sure we would all like to know.

You have an amazing job that you have worked very hard to get to.  Can you tell us briefly how you got to where you are today?

Thank you! I first travelled overseas when I was just 13 years old as part of a children’s choir to sing at a movie premier, and ever since then I have been obsessed. I have been travelling on and off for the past 10 years, but this year I began travelling full time as my blog was becoming so successful. You can read my full story in The World of Wanderlust Story

This is going to be a tough question.  What has been your most memorable destination so far and why?

For the past few years I have always hated answering this question but just this month my answer has changed, as I think one experience finally stands out ‘above’ the rest. Earlier this month I went on safari in South Africa and saw the Big 5 – it was indeed the most incredible, memorable, and surreal experience of my life.

What cant you travel without?

My Frends headphones! Oh how I love to drown out the sounds of others and retreat into my own little world – even if it’s just for a car journey!

I have read so many amazing posts of yours.  Is there anything that you have been shocked by or had a really bad experience with?

Yes! I’m still not sure how to write about it, but I’m sure that one day I will – it’s a bit of a tough topic to write about though, given it was a very real and very bad experience involving another traveller. Basically I ended up short changed a few hundred dollars and she did a runner – but as my close friends and family said, it’s only money at the end of the day – safety is more important! Needless to say I have never heard from her again, nor did I ever wish to.

Do you have any tips for packing?

There are quite a few blogs and videos (link: http://www.youtube.com/brookehaute I have on packing. However if I could give one piece of advice, it would be to underpack and buy what you need when you are away!

Congratulations on your Skyscanner International Travel Blog 2014.  Tell us a little bit about that?

Thank you! I was incredibly happy and humbled to take away that award. Travel blogs were nominated by people from around the world and one day I got an email in my inbox to say I had been nominated. I was completely surprised and didn’t really know much about the competition, nor did I expect to make it to the finalists in Australia, so I didn’t really promote it too much.

Then when I found out I was a finalist (along with 5 other bloggers) for Australia and New Zealand, I started sharing the competition with readers and asking for them to please vote! I ended up winning that and was put through to the international round. That round was judged by Skyscanner’s head office and MUCH to my surprise – I won that too!

Since then things have been crazy and I work 24/7 to fit everything in!

What has been one of your Highlights so far with World of Wanderlust?

My highlight as World of Wanderlust will always be the same – my tours with Elite Adventure Tours in Los Angeles. My first ‘big break’ was filming a day tour with them in LA when I had first launched my website and I can not thank them enough. They’re also a great bunch of guys that run great tours (I flew via helicopter to the $48 million mansion from The Hangover 3), so definitely look them up if you’re in LA!

Your social media followers are astonishing.  Over 71,000 on Instagram, 7,300 on Facebook and 3,200 on Twitter.  What’s your response to that?

I can’t even comprehend what that would be like if you put all of those people into a room! It’s crazy but it is growing very quickly this year since I have taken it full time. At the end of the day my aim for WOW is to inspire others to travel, and by the looks of things that is working – so I’m incredibly happy!

I heard on the grapevine that World of Wanderlust has an app coming out.  Is that true?

Yes! The App launch is around the corner and I’m so excited. It will allow readers to travel the world without ever leaving their bedroom, so to speak. You will basically have all of the WOW updates in one place, as well as special updates, and much more – it’s very exciting but I won’t say any more!

Can you finish off these sentences:

I love it when... My hair does itself in the morning.

I love to travel solo because .. This is my journey.

I get annoyed with.. Bad coffee.

I’m really excited about.. Going back on safari next week!

I’m not quite sure about ... Sleeping in a different hotel bed every two nights. It’s so hard to get a good night of rest!

I love to travel because... It teaches me what they don’t teach you in school – patience, understanding, self appreciation, I could go on for days…..

What’s coming up in the future for World of Wanderlust?

There’s the app launch (very soon) and a lot of big big news I can’t speak about yet – but definitely keep an eye out! Sadly I can’t give too much away but there are some big changes coming and you can expect WOW to grow A LOT in the coming months!
