Love locks are starting to appear on the Yarra Footbridge in Melbourne. Many of you may off heard of this romantic tradition in Rome. They are meant to symbolise the locking of hearts, inspired by a story in a novel.
The custom is inspired by book novelist Federico Moccia in which a couple place a bicycle lock around a lamppost and throw the key into the Tiber River. The gesture was meant to symbolise the couple eternally locking their hearts together.
I decided to check out the bridge on the most romantic day of the year, Valentine’s Day. My husband and I decided to place a love lock on the bridge for our 1 year old daughter. Hopefully in a few years time, it will still be there to show her.
